From Thriller (1961): “Portrait Without a Face” 50 min.
After Robinson Moffat is mysteriously murdered in his studio, his last prepared canvas, The Angel of Death, begins to paint itself. Moffat’s gallery and a connoisseur struggle to determine the endgame of this supernatural harmonograph. Animate/inanimate and inverse auto-destruction, with Sergeant Schultz from Hogan’s Heroes.

From Tales from the Crypt (1991): “Easel Kill Ya” 28 min.
Painter Jack Craig’s dark subject matter and novel formal techniques attract the interest of wealthy collector Malcom Mayflower. Like Turner tied to the mast, his pursuit of authenticity turns reckless as he desperately tries to retain Mayflower’s patronage. Artistic melancholy and the expressive fallacy, with Tim Roth!

🚨BONUS VHS FEATURE🚨 Terror in the Wax Museum (1973).
Okay, okay, so I haven’t been able to watch it yet, but this interpretation of the quintessential artist-horror narrative features the following erstwhile paragons of our series: Ray Milland, John Carradine, a wax Jack the Ripper, a wax Bluebard, AND Elsa Lanchester, aka the Bride of Frankenstein herself. We’ll just roll this new addition in the back over and over again so we can all catch a glimpse of its possible majesty.
